The Challenge

Local businesses were drowning in spam calls and robocalls. Staff wasted hours answering unwanted callers, and real customers were being missed inside the noise. The client needed a fully automated verification layer between the world and the business phone.

The Solution

I designed a multi-stage GoHighLevel IVR automation that classifies every incoming call. Already-verified callers skip verification and connect straight through. New callers enter an IVR challenge: press a key to prove you're a real person. If they pass, a verification tag is applied, the call is connected, and future calls bypass verification. If they fail, the call is ended before it ever interrupts staff. If a verified caller isn't answered, the workflow records a voicemail for follow-up.

Workflow Breakdown

Step-by-step, exactly how the automation runs

    Incoming Call Trigger

    Workflow fires on every inbound call to the business number.

  2. 2

    Check IVR Verified Tag

    Contact is inspected for a prior 'ivr-verified' tag.

  3. 3

    Verified Caller → Connect Directly

    Returning verified callers skip IVR and are routed straight to the business.

  4. 4

    New Caller Enters IVR Verification

    Unknown callers are sent into a Gather-input IVR step.

  5. 5

    Prompt: Press a Key to Continue

    A short audio prompt asks the caller to prove they're a real person.

  6. 6

    Key Pressed → Verify & Connect

    Apply verification tag, connect the call, and save the state for future calls.

  7. 7

    No Key Pressed → End Call

    Spam and robocalls are ended silently before staff are ever interrupted.

    Unanswered Verified Call → Voicemail

    If the business can't pick up, the workflow records a voicemail and ends cleanly.
